My Life on a Canvas

Every production of an artist should be the expression of an adventure of his soul.

This is what I felt while going through his gallery. Free falling into waves after waves, having innocent aspirations to rise above the rat race and the journey from a dream to reality; all these speak out of his depictions.

Meet Raj Mathur, the Kolkata-based stand-up comedian with a commerce background, who has the ability to create magic with his paintings. He started portraying his life on a canvas since 2013 and hasn’t stopped ever since. The thought behind his work being the simple quotidian events, his thoughts, his way of perceiving life and also a way to let off steam.

Life is a tragedy when seen in close-up, but a comedy in long-shot.

Having a versatile personality, his paintings portray his multiple talents. More inclined towards human analogy, he relishes the still life as well.

Editor’s Picks:

Much said about the originator, let’s go through his life on a canvas.
With his subtle strokes and immense creativity, he has concocted miniatures, as well as, canvas size works.

  1. Rat Race
    Medium: Ink on Paper

    Rat Race

This monochromatic piece is a literal representation of the “Rat Race” that people often experience diurnally. Times have changed and you have to be a part of the rat race to be successful. Less, do they know that triumphant stand out of the crowd to display their distinctiveness.

  2. Free Falling
    Medium: Acrylic on Canvas

    Free Falling

The sprayed galaxy is perfectly vibrant with stars. The astronaut miniature is a sheer product of creativity and talents. With precision drawing being his strength, he has mastered every piece of dot and line in this very fine piece of art.

  3. The Journey
    Medium: Acrylic on Canvas

    The Journey

To be honest, this gives me ideas for my new #travelgoals 🙂 The brilliant concept of enclosing the vast ocean in a tiny bulb that symbolizes ideas makes this a very special piece for me. I personally feel that it shows the dilemmas, thoughts that persist in our enclosed mind. But then it’s my apprehension of the painting and art is a form of free perception. The same piece might be grasped differently by different minds.

  4. Portraits
    Medium: Ink on Paper

    Shah Rukh Khan

Human analogy is complex, but he has got the hang of every emotion of it. Also, adding the light and shadow to the portrait brings in the required depth in his masterpieces.

  5. Innocent Aspirations
    Medium: Ink on Paper

    Innocent Aspirations

The artist speaks about the aspirations to reach the moon through his dot painting. A line is made up of million dots, never thought that perfectly aligned dots and loads of patience could constitute to become a painting.
